INTERIOR OF THE DISPATCHING CENTRE

Study and project
Implementation
The dispatching centres control the technological processes of high value and the controlled units are frequently in a large area. The information that has to be analysed quickly and correctly concentrates in these centres. Many functions are automatic today, but many decisions must be made by a man- a dispatcher, an operator, who often has to make decisions under time pressure, by himself and always with high responsibility. A successful project of a dispatching centre has to respect not only technical requirements of the technological process but also many ergonomical standards, which help to make a positive working place. That is why the realization of the interior of the dispatching centre succeeds the realization of the technical equipment. The complex services of the company APEL® eliminate the problems with many different supplies and suppliers.

STUDY AND PROJECT

The demanding work of the dispatchers requires many subsidiary technical means and long-lasting staying in the dispatching centre. It poses demanding and often contradictory requirements to the architectural design of this extremely exploited room. Additional rooms (a daily room, a kitchen, a manager’s room, a cloak room, a room for meetings, etc.) adjoin the dispatching room and make an important background. The equipment of these rooms and their connection to the dispatching room are very important and specific.
A specialized architect has to project the complex design. He reviews all requirements and incorporates them in an alternative study that he refers to the investor. The investor with the architect selects the final solution from the offered alternatives. This final solution is developed in detail in an implementation project. Other specialists, e.g. for lighting equipment, air-conditioning, participate in this detailing.

IMPLEMENTATION

CONSOLES, DESKS FOR MONITORS, STORAGE EQUIPMENT
The console, chairs, monitors of the information and command system and often also the mosaic panel integrate the main dispatching workplace.
The console is made to order and adapted to positioning of a keyboard, a mouse or a trackball and further necessary equipment. A telephone switchboard is usually placed in the middle of the console.
The console has one, two or three workplaces according to the dispatching condition. It is made of board veneered by a quality veneer or a melamine. The board edges are usually made of solid wood. The console is equipped with cable channels modified against the fire spread. The channels are used for distribution of supply voltage and data links. Next to the side and middle extensions the console may be supplemented with mobile, lockable drawer containers for dispatchers’ personal things.
The monitors of the technological process are placed in front of the console edge. The monitor has equivalent size (usually with diagonal 19´´ to 21´´ and more). They may be installed on different types of desks or stands, which may be travelling or sliding. The desks have tilting boards for setting the optimal angle of the monitors. The stands are adjustable height. Special desks are used for placing the printers. Their size is dependent on the printers’ size. They are modified to storage and lead of paper.
Cases, shelves and other necessary storage equipment may be made to order or bought from the serial production.

DISPATCHING ARMCHAIRS
The dispatching armchair is a very important part of the work place. The durability and the satisfaction of many ergonomical requirements determine its quality. Ordinary chairs and armchairs are not able to stand the load during the dispatching centre’s operation. The operation is 24 hours with changing of the different dispatchers. The armchairs must be easily adjustable as to the seat height (grid or gas mechanics), the setting of the backrest (the height of the backrest, the active pressure to back), etc. A five-armed durable base with a suitable type of travelling wheels (for a carpet or a hard floor cloth) is a necessity. The wheels have a stoppage. The impact on the chair is spring-loaded. The seat must have a correct design which holds the legs well perfused. All upholstered parts must be made of a material that constrains the sweat and the covering material must be durable and agreeable to touch. The guarantee period for the dispatching chairs is usually 5 years.

LIGHTING EQUIPMENT
The lighting system is also a very important part of the dispatching centre. It is necessary to ensure an optimal lighting for different parts of the work place independent of the time of the day. There are different requirements for the work desk, for the part with monitors and for the vertical mosaic panel.
Vertical or horizontal blinds are used for the regulation of the daylight. The vertical textile blinds have also an aesthetic function. It is possible to choose from a wide assortment of types, also fire-resistant. Its mechanic enables easy mounting and operation. The maintenance is easy too.
The lamps for general lighting of the room are placed on the ceiling and the lamps for lighting of the dispatching workplace are placed on a special ramp. Modern, effective fluorescent lamps with long service time, installed in proper casings with defined emissive characteristics are used for these purposes. The fluorescent light may be regulated electronically by a wireless control - range from 1 to 100 % of the luminous flux. The fluorescent lamps are excited by the high-frequency voltage that ensures an easy start and prevents the light oscillation. Good characteristics of the electronic regulation are a prolongation of the lamps´ service time and saving of energy. The regulator may be controlled by a button or by an infrared remote control.
A specialist who has the design system for illumination level calculation at his disposal makes a project of the lighting system. It is necessary to use lamps with the right emissive characteristic and with the right light-colour consistency with ergonomic standards and to place them in the right place. It is also necessary to reduce reflection on the watched surfaces, especially on monitors.

WALL-FACING
Wall-facing and partition walls that divide rooms with different specialization are important creative components. The veneered wall-panelling is very impressive. A partition wall, in which the mosaic panel is mounted and which divides the dispatching room from the technical background, may be made of these veneered panels. It may sometimes be good to make the partition wall of glass that enables to stay in contact with the dispatching room. A supporting frame of this partition wall may be made of wood, plastic or metal. It is also possible to use the plaster boards for the wall-facing.
Certain supporting systems, such as moving regional maps or subsidiary schemes of the technological process, may be placed in the wall-facing and partition walls.

LOWER CEILING
The waffle lower ceiling in the dispatching room has an aesthetical and many further functions. The design is different if the grid of the lower ceiling is hidden or visible. It is possible to choose from many types and colours of the waffle slabs. It is good to place some lamps to the lower ceiling. Some power lines and parts of the air-conditioning may be hidden there too. Special materials of the waffle slabs have a positive impact on the room acoustics or the heat transfer through the ceiling.
up
FLOORING
The flooring of the dispatching room is usually double for easy installation of the wiring. A suitable carpet is usually laid on this double floor. The carpet has the positive impact on the room acoustics and the heat conditions in the room. The carpets, which are used in dispatching centres, have the guaranteed antistatic characteristic and high resistance.
up
AIR - CONDITIONING
It is necessary to air-condition the dispatching room to ensure the ergonomics. Air-conditioning may be installed with different comfort – from heating in a transition period to systems with air-cooling and an air-dispenser. A specialist makes the project of these systems. He works up the development records according to the heat and technical conditions of the room.
up
COMPLEMENTS
It is possible to install flowers to the dispatching centre. A TV with teletext is usually in the rest room. The dispatching centre may be also equipped with a guarding video-system and an access system that checks the entrance to the centre and records working hours.
